Dispute on Intelligence Report Disrupts Republicans’ Game Plan:

The House speaker, J. Dennis Hastert, Republican of Illinois, said, “The same terrorists who plan to harm innocent Americans and their freedoms would be coddled, if we followed the Democratic plan.”

The Dems want to coddle terrorists?

Well, vote 'em in! Who doesn't need a good coddling?

Me, I like to watch....

"M'yeah, that's some good coddle, yeah, like that, get that coddle on.."

Harm their freedoms.. for f*cks sake, Hastert, you're a turkey.

Nice uniform

Israel Releases High-Ranking Hamas Official:

Lack of evidence. Fair enough. Meanwhile...

Israel began rounding up the Hamas legislators in the West Bank after Palestinian militants, including the armed wing of Hamas, seized an Israeli soldier on June 25 and took him into the Gaza Strip. The soldier, Cpl. Gilad Shalit, is still being held, despite an Israeli military incursion in Gaza and the crackdown on Hamas lawmakers.

Free enemas for the elderly

This fella was falsely accused of being a terrorist...

they locked up his wretched ass for 3 years:

It's important for Americans and others across the world to understand the kind of people held at Guantanamo. These aren't common criminals, or bystanders accidentally swept up on the battlefield -- we have in place a rigorous process to ensure those held at Guantanamo Bay belong at Guantanamo.

George W. Bush
White House Address

Tip-dog to Billmon.

Digby has many more thoughts, specifically on rubes such as McCain getting duped and essentially removing ALL judicial oversight of torture programs. Neat-o.

Again with the receipts!

The Bushes & the Truth About Iran:

The evidence is now persuasive that George H.W. Bush participated in negotiations with Iran’s radical regime in 1980, behind President Jimmy Carter’s back, with the goal of arranging for 52 American hostages to be released after Bush and Ronald Reagan were sworn in as Vice President and President, respectively.

In exchange, the Republicans agreed to let Iran obtain U.S.-manufactured military supplies through Israel. The Iranians kept their word, releasing the hostages immediately upon Reagan’s swearing-in on Jan. 20, 1981.

Over the next few years, the Republican-Israel-Iran weapons pipeline operated mostly in secret, only exploding into public view with the Iran-Contra scandal in late 1986. Even then, the Reagan-Bush team was able to limit congressional and other investigations, keeping the full history – and the 1980 chapter – hidden from the American people.

Upon taking office on Jan. 20, 2001, George W. Bush walled up the history even more by issuing an executive order blocking the scheduled declassification of records from the Reagan-Bush years. After 9/11, the younger George Bush added more bricks to the wall by giving Presidents, Vice Presidents and their heirs power over releasing documents.

True patriots, baby.

Swift Bolt

Andrew Bolt welcomes Al Gore to Australia with a column that accuses Gore of being "one of the worst of the fact-fiddling Green evangelicals".

Tim Lambert picks 10 'quibbles' which Andrew Bolt has of Gore's doco and proceeds to give 'em a good ol'Fiskin. The Resulting score?

Final score for Bolt: zero out of ten. Not just a failure, a miserable failure.

Figures.

Sleepwording

A Closure Event: weaselwords.com.au to be non-continuing.

The timeframe for this site is approaching permanent disconnect. In terms of going forwards we are not. We retain our commitment to our vision and our values but we are time-poor, challenged in terms of our fiscal position and cannot service the target, much less push the envelope and achieve continuous improvement in the present context. Our high-performance upstream customer interfacing with ongoing value creation and appropriate site servicing is not possible in the time period that awaits us. So we are downsizing to zero, re-branding to blank.

Thanks for the cathartic event enablement.

Sorry to see it go.

The value system of insisting

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA):

"In light of the rantings that went on for 30 minutes by two colleagues from the other side, I'd like to state for the record that America is not tired of fighting terrorism; America is tired of the wrongheaded and boneheaded leadership of the Republican party that has sent six and a half billion a month to Iraq while the front line was Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia. That led this country to attack Saddam Hussein, when we were attacked by Osama bin Laden. Who captured a man who did not attack the country and let loose a man that did. Americans are tired of boneheaded Republican leadership that alienates our allies when we need them the most. Americans are most certainly tired of leadership that despite documenting mistake after mistake after mistake, even of their own party admitting mistakes, never admit they do anything wrong. That's the kind of leadership Americans are tired of."

She concluded,

"I'm not going to sit here as a Democrat and let the Republican leadership come to the floor and talk about Democrats not making us safe. They're the ones in charge and Osama bin Laden is still at loose."

She's right, of course.

Meanwhile, here in OzSteveWirnia, Beazley will do f*ck all else but blow gas up Howard's already nauseatingly stinky value excreting hole.

That ain't right.

Former CIA spy to sue Armitage over leak:

Mr Armitage said last week that he was the first one to discuss Ms Plame's identity with reporters after Mr Wilson, a former US ambassador, criticised the Bush Administration's Iraq policy in a 2003 opinion piece in The New York Times.

This guy, Armitage, would throw himself on a hand grenade to protect his colleagues and though he wouldn't need to be ordered to do so, you could bet Ol'T-Bloss wouldn't hesitate to issue the order.

As thick as thieves this lot.

Meanwhile a career in the reduction of weapons proliferation (that'd be Nukes, to boot) has been destroyed. Vengeful. Nice.

Best President Ever?

The Cavuto Mark:

"...Cavuto's not saying these things. He's just asking, like, 'Is your mother a whore?' What? I'm not saying she's a whore. I'm just wondering out loud if she is a whore. All I'm saying is that reasonable people who have banged your mother for money can disagree."

ANZ economist, Saul Eslake, is posting over at Club Troppo (which, incidentally, seems to be on fire at the moment, with some great posts).

Worth a look.

Dash for cash

Political NASCAR.

Back to the grill again

Two US soldiers, eight Afghans killed in Kabul blast:

The blast struck about 100 meters (yards) from the US embassy, scattering human flesh, pieces of the vehicle and rubble across a wide area.

Remember, kids, they hate our freedoms. So shut the f*ck up and quit criticising our foreign policy. Your children are our's to sacrifice.

Barefoot and Wilson

This is the latest attempt at smearing Joe Wilson (you know... Niger, yellow-cake, false-pretense-for-the-invasion-of-a-sovereign-state-turns-out-
we-lied/were-wrong-
besides-Saddam-was-worse-and-we-can't-leave-it-up-to-Iraqis-to-decide-
when-they--are prepared-to-sacrifice-thousands-of-lives-
and-throw-their-country-into-turmoil-low/med/high-grade-
civil-war-stuff-happens, married to a CIA agent).

They seem to be going for the 'Mr Mom' argument:

He ought to have expected that both those officials and journalists such as Mr. Novak would ask why a retired ambassador would have been sent on such a mission and that the answer would point to his wife.

Yes, damned uppity former-Ambassador shoulda done stayed at home.

A more in-depth (as in intelligent) comment over at NO QUARTER.

Tip-dog

BTW - I recently, for the first time, saw a pic of Wilson's wife.. damn! It's good to be the Ambassador...
