Cynical City

LP has a comprehensive round up on the NT State of Emergency:

It’s astonishing that people can be denounced so vociferously for being cynical about the Federal Government’s motivations, when you read a week after the announcement was made that Indigenous employment programmes in WA dealing with the welfare of children, domestic violence and alcholism are being closed down due to Commonwealth funding cuts this weekend.

I'm a naysayer! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

So much to denounce, so little time

I know I link to him probably a little too often (too often, as in the stalking/obsessive sense), but I believe that Roy Edroso is again worth the click:

FOR THE RECORD, PEOPLE, LISTEN UP: I think it's great Rushdie got knighted, fuck a bunch of Islamic fundamentalism, etc.

Now right-click the time-stamp on this sucker and put the link in your stupid blogs, wingnuts. I dare you!

Not fast enough! Why does The Right embrace censorship?

Abu Ghraib

Rumsfeld's Abu Ghraib Cover-Up Revealed:

Rumsfeld first met Taguba in May of '04 he made no attempt to disguise his contempt:

"Here . . . comes . . . that famous General Taguba--of the Taguba report!" Rumsfeld declared, in a mocking voice. The meeting was attended by Paul Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld's deputy; Stephen Cambone, the Under-Secretary of Defense for Intelligence; General Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (J.C.S.); and General Peter Schoomaker, the Army chief of staff, along with Craddock and other officials. Taguba, describing the moment nearly three years later, said, sadly, "I thought they wanted to know. I assumed they wanted to know. I was ignorant of the setting."

What a stand up guy Rumsfeld is/was.

Eight is not enough for a verifiable clash of civilisations

Juan Cole counts the number of fronts in Iraq - The Eighth Front:

So in addition to the Arab-Kurdish front already counted, that makes 2 more fronts, for a grand total of 8. Not all 8 are very active at all times. But all 8 do break out into substantial violence from time to time. And we may have just seen a flare-up in no. 8.

If the US didn't invade Iraq, to fight them over there, in which parts of the US would these fronts be located?

They free us for our hate.. doms

One of the original cheerleaders for the Iraq invasion, Daily Pundit, is keen for the US Gov't to assume a 'take no prisoners' attitude toward the prisoners it has taken to Gitmo.

Comment(s) from Mithras starts the name calling. Googoo? You bet.

Tip-dog.
